Mary Mullen, M.S., R.D., L.D.N

Mary Mullen is Senior Partner at JM & Associates, Inc. a nutrition communications firm. She has written numerous professional and consumer programs and educational materials for business and industry, public relations firms and national health associations. She has given numerous presentations at the local, state and national level on a variety of topics including nutrition and wellness for adults and children, sports nutrition and pediatric obesity. Mary is co-author of the American Dietetic Association’s Guide to Healthy Eating for Kids (John Wiley and Sons, 2002), Childhood and Adolescent Overweight: A Health Professional’s Guide to Identification, Treatment, and Prevention (American Dietetic Association, 2003) and Counseling Overweight and Obese Children and Teens: Health Care reference and Client Education Handouts(American Dietetic Association, 2008).

Mary has extensive experience in clinical nutrition and is currently a pediatric dietitian at Rush University Medical Center where she counsels parents, children and adolescents on nutrition-related health issues. She also holds a faculty position in the Department of Food and Nutrition and currently precepts and teaches nutrition graduate students, medical students and pediatric residents. In addition, she is an Instructor at Benedictine University where she has developed and teaches nutrition courses for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Mary has been the nutritionist for The Chicago White Sox for over twenty years. Her responsibilities have included working closely with the chef in developing recipes and writing menus, publishing a bimonthly newsletter for both the players and employees, conducting wellness classes and advising the trainers.

Mullen earned her bachelor degree in Dietetics from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and her Masters of Science in Clinical Dietetics from Eastern Illinois University. She is a registered dietitian (R.D.) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and a licensed dietitian (L.D.) in the state of Illinois. Ms. Mullen is an active member of The American Dietetic Association and has held several leadership positions including delegate and president of The Illinois Dietetic Association. Mary lives in the Chicago area with her husband and four children, Joseph, Kevin, Anne and Maura.
