If you want your clan around the table for dinner each night, stop trying to live up to old-fashioned standards.  Parents today don’t have time to cook pot roast and bake bread.  Time-pressed cooks can serve nutritious and delicious dinners without spending the whole day in the kitchen.  Here are some shortcuts you can take to help get dinner on the table in record time.

Stock up on nutritious standbys.  Keeping all the right ingredients on hand will guarantee a nutritious meal even on short notice.  Make a list of frequently used items, and attach it to your refrigerator door or keep it in your cell phone.  Check items that you’re running low on, and replace them the next time you shop.

Use quick and easy cooking methods.  Stir-frying, sauteing, steaming, and microwaving are a few cooking methods that are fast, cut back on fat, and help retain nutrients.

Invest in the right cookware.  Treat yourself to some of the new cookware that’s available to the hurried cook.  Steamers, nonstick pans, and dishes that are microwave-safe can definitely help you out in the kitchen.  Woks or large, nonstick skillets with a lid are great for stir-frying.  Slow-cookers, such as a Crock Pot, let soups, stews, and chili cook all day while you’re out.
