Are your kids eating healthy?  Does your family get enough exercise?  If you have five minutes and want to find out, take the Family Nutrition and Activity survey.  It’s short, easy to complete and will help you evaluate your family’s home environment with regard to nutrition and physical activity.  Once you take the survey (I call it a quiz), you will get an overall score.  This score will help you evaluate your family’s progress toward maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  Need some help boosting your score?  Simply click on any of your answers, and you will get positive, practical feed back and lots of tips to help you and your family. Here are just a few of the topics and questions covered on the quiz:

Family Meals – Does your child eat breakfast?  How often do you eat meals together as a family?

Family Eating Habits and Food Choices – How often do you have fast food or drink soda pop? Does your child eat fruits and vegetables at every meal?

Screen Time – Does your child have a TV in their bedroom? How many hours does your child spend in front of a screen – computer, TV, or video games?

Physical Activity – Is your child physically active every day? How about you?

Sleep Habits – Does your family have a bedtime routine?  Does your child get 9 hours of sleep a night?

The Family Nutrition and Activity  survey is part of Kids Eat Right, a campaign dedicated to helping families concerned about the rising number of overweight children in our country.  Unfortunately, today one out of every three kids is overweight.  I am proud to have been part of the Kids Eat Right planning committee.  Be sure to check out the Kids Eat Right website which is loaded with tips, articles, recipes and videos to help busy families shop smart, cook healthy and eat right.  All of the content on this site is provided by nutrition experts – Registered Dietitians.  My book, Healthy Eating Healthy Weight for Kids and Teens, is also a great resources for families trying to raise healthy eaters.  In fact, it’s now available in paperback and ebook formats.

So last night, I took the Family Nutrition and Activity quiz and it really did take only five minutes.  And, I am happy to report, our score was 65 which put my family in the healthy category.  The quiz revealed a key area my family needs to work on – screen time.  So what are you waiting for?  Go ahead and take the quiz right now!  What’s your family’s score?
